Pixar Animation Studios laid off nearly 5% of its 1,200-person staff this week as a direct result of the delay of its forthcoming movie The Good Dinosaur. The film's opening was recently postponed from May 30, 2014, to November 25, 2015.
“At Pixar, we are constantly re-evaluating the creative and business needs of our studio,” a Pixar spokesman told the L.A. Times. “With the release date change of The Good Dinosaur, we have realigned our production and support priorities, which includes a small reduction in our staffing levels.”
The Good Dinosaur, like all Pixar productions, has weathered its fair share of production snafus. Most recently, Pixar reportedly removed co-director Bob Peterson from the project, with the subsequent resulting creative retooling leading to the film's release date being pushed to 2015. (For what it's worth, we liked what we saw of The Good Dinosaur at this past summer's D23 Expo.)
