    I know ocarina of time is generally considered to be superior to the others, but what do you think? Maybe I'm crazy, but Wind Waker was my favorite of the series. I'm not going to include the DS and GBA ones because it's hard to compare them, they're unlikely to get votes, and you're limited to 10 choices per poll.

    My favorite is Wind Waker.

    And while I doubt the ds games would win best (they're good in my opinion just most wouldn't rank them number one) the gba games might have got some votes.

    Hey, if TP scratches your belly, so be it.

    I simply think less of TP because it tries to scratch the same spot that OoT scratched. BTW, my belly has gotten much larger. God, I'm so lonely and fat. :(

    Ocarina of Time is the best Zelda game in my opinion, but A Link to the Past is a close runner up. Why does Ocarina have the edge over A Link to the Past for me? The reason is due to the presence and nature of the primary antagonist, having more memorable experiences in the context of the entire series and its innovations influencing the gaming industry as a WHOLE rather than just the Zelda series specifically.

    In A Link to the Past, you encounter a Wizard in a red and green cloak early in the game and then end up fighting a medium sized blue pig pig holding a pointy staff but with NO major encounters in the middle of the game.

    In Ocarina of Time, the presence of the primary antagonist is felt through the ENTIRE game, at the beginning in Links nigthmares, in the middle, with the encounter outside Hyrule Market and then AGAIN as you go to attempt get the Triforce while acquiring the Master Sword in the Temple of Time and finally, at the end with the final confrontation at Ganon's Castle. The primary antagonists presence in OOT was felt throughout the ENTIRE game from beginning to end which helped set the mood and ensured the plot progressed well, and OOTs primary antagonist therefore, was much more menacing than ALTTP primary antagonist where in OOT he was a large strong man and then became a massive swine like creature with two blades. ALTTPs Blue Pig Ganon with a pointy staff and floaty energy projectiles paled in comparison.

    The second reason Ocarina of Time edges out A Link to the Past for me is that it featured more standout memorable moments in the context of the entire series. Everything from entering the Temple of Time for the first time with that simple church hymn in the background that made the place feel important, to pulling the Master Sword out from the pedestal and to (in my opinion) two of the most memorable experiences in the entire series; the ascend up Ganon's Castle amongst dozens of flights of stairs with that omnious organ music getting louder as you drew closer to Ganondorf only to have purple energy inflicted onto Link from Ganondorfs gauntlets and the descend down when the tower is collapsing following successful completion of the first phase of the final boss. All I can remember from A Link to the Past was the innovative dark/world mechanic itself, but no major specific plot moments like OOT.

    Finally, while A Link to the Past remains arguably the most innovative game in the series in terms of the quantity of additions it made mainstream to the series, OOT introduced two mechanics that were majorly innovative to the GAMING INDUSTRY AS A WHOLE, the lock on mechanic and the context sensetive actions mechanic. Many modern games have Ocarina of Time to thank for pioneering these two mechanics which are now a shoe-in for many third person perspective games.

    It's for these reasons that Ocarina of Time is arguably the greatest game in the Zelda series (despite only featuring 9 dungeons, disgraceful Thriller style where the overall quality of the album was compromised for lacking a 10th track), but A Link to the Past is still excellent as well and easily remains one of the series finest installments for its additions to the series, its difficulty and its length.

    [face_shame_on_you] the GBC zelda games should of been added, as oracle of ages and oracle of seasons are probably the two greatest zelda's ever created.

    I swore we just got through with one of our weekly best Zelda game ever threads.[face_tongue] Oh well. Oot is still my favorite followed by MM. And unless zelda makes a dramatic change, it's probably going to stay that way.

    Ocarina of Time nailed everything perfectly, the layout of Hyrule, all the temples, the atmosphere and music, combat, yadda yadda yadda. It's all timeless and perfect. No nostalgia goggles there.

    Every Zelda game since with the exception of MM, feels like it's missing something. Everything, including the music just doesn't quite reach the level that Ocarina of Time did.

    I just went back to watch some gameplay videos, and adventure of link looks worse than LoZ. Why would they make it side scroller in the first place?

    Back when the game was created, zelda didn't really have a foundation yet. It's similar to why SMB2 (american version) and SMB are so different. And personally I changed AoL a good amount.

    I will get back to answering this once I finish playing ALttP. I've noticed that there isn't much love for the original LoZ, which is a shame because I feel like it does the best job at producing the sense of exploration. I can say that it's going to be between OoT and ALttP.

    Agree totally. And BTW pulling the Master Sword was one of my biggest epic video gaming moments ever(I didn't know that Link grows up later).

    And I don't understand people love WW so much yet dislike TP so much whereas TP is the superior game IMO.

    I voted WW, w/o reading any posts. Ever since I first saw its reveal trailer I was mesmerized by it. And then playing the game, sailing in the massive sea felt very liberating, and gave that sense of exploration, finding somethign random out in the middle of nowhere.

    I suppose OoT and MM are close runner ups.

    In accordance with Shigeru Miyamoto's goal to put you in the hero's shoes, I feel like Skyward Sword is overwhelmingly the best. Not the best story or dungeons though :(

    Yes, but I didn't go too far on the Adventure of Link and never beat TMC's final boss (or maybe I did, but I can't recall it).
    I always saw that game as a bonus mode, but since you're insisting, here you go:

    I remember being slightly dissapointed with Ocarina of Time since it wasn't as deep as A Link To The Past, Hyrule Field was mostly barren, and I was expecting orchestrated choir music at the final battle (based on the commercial) which I didn't get. ALTTP was completely packed, every single square of the map had hidden secrets, it had a lot of optional items, it had the perfect balance of open world vs linear, and the puzzles overall were more compelling IMO than OOT. As long as ALTTP is part of your TOP 3 Zelda games that is good enough for me. [face_peace]

    I think Twilight princess was released a bit to late for it to have given us a bigger WOW factor. A link to the past was one of the hardest games I played then and is today one of the best games of all time. A link to the past vs Ocarina of time is just as a good as an argument as super metroid vs metroid 3d except that 3d metroid doesn't compare the same type of greatness.

    It's like a bonus game, but it's not a bonus game. It was made to be its own game with its own story, dungeons, items, etc. It's considered one of the canon Zelda games by Nintendo, making it less of a bonus game than Zelda Game & Watch or Link's Crossbow Training, for example.
